CVE-2011-1083
Publication date 4 April 2011
Last updated 24 July 2024
Ubuntu priority
The epoll implementation in the Linux kernel 2.6.37.2 and earlier does not properly traverse a tree of epoll file descriptors, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via a crafted application that makes epoll_create and epoll_ctl system calls.
From the Ubuntu Security Team
Nelson Elhage discovered that the epoll subsystem did not correctly handle certain structures. A local attacker could create malicious requests that would consume large amounts of CPU, leading to a denial of service.
