Based in Dallas, Texas, Cinergy operates a chain of three cinema entertainment centres (CECs) with ambitious expansion plans. CECs are an all in one entertainment venue incorporating cinemas, restaurants, bowling and other activities such as escape rooms. With so many activities to communicate including the latest promotions and film times, Cinergy’s digital signage set up needs to be efficient, secure and effective.
Cinergy’s CTO, Nathan Hunstable, tells us that originally they adopted Apple TVs to manage content and run their digital signage. Very quickly and as the company expanded so quickly, they discovered this wasn’t a long term solution plus the management costs were becoming prohibitive. After reviewing alternatives, Cinergy turned to Screenly Pro running Ubuntu Core.
“Obviously we really care about security,” says Nathan Hunstable. “While the previous version of Screenly was already hardened, the move to Ubuntu Core provides security updates even faster. This in turn gives us the peace of mind that our digital signage devices are secured and that we’re as protected as we can be from the latest hacks or ransomware.”
