  • Collaboration to drive innovation and flexibility into enterprise cloud deployments
  • Ubuntu Certified Images now available on Oracle Cloud Marketplace
  • Running development and production on Ubuntu can remove migration and engineering costs

Canonical today announced that it is working with Oracle to provide enterprises with greater flexibility in the way they develop and deploy large-scale workloads on Oracle Cloud. Certified Ubuntu images are now available on the Oracle Cloud Marketplace, providing Oracle enterprise customers with increased choice, velocity – a true “grab and go” approach – and new and innovative ways to manage and scale their enterprise workloads, using the number one cloud operating system.

The importance of certified Ubuntu images is growing as companies look for ways to streamline cloud development and drive flexibility into management of production workloads, whilst maintaining the highest level of security and stability. Canonical has worked hard to optimise Ubuntu images that ensure one of the highest-quality cloud experiences for Oracle enterprise Cloud customers.

Canonical continually maintains, tests and updates certified Ubuntu images, making the latest versions available on the Oracle Cloud Marketplace within minutes of their official release by Canonical. For all Ubuntu LTS versions, Canonical provides maintenance and security updates for five years.

Udi Nachmany, head of Certified Public Cloud at Canonical explains: “Aside from the obvious cost savings inherent in open source cloud development, one of the key benefits of using official Ubuntu images is that customers use the same operating system at scale in production as in development, at no additional cost – which dramatically simplifies cross-substrate management, migration and re-engineering. Organizations may want to deploy their servers on-premises, develop their own private cloud in-house, or use the Oracle Cloud. Ubuntu offers this flexibility.”

This gives app or template developers in the marketplace an optimized image to build on, as long as they use certified images themselves. And end-user support for Ubuntu deployment is available from Canonical. “Ubuntu Advantage Virtual Guest offers end users full enterprise-grade support – whether on a virtual machine, Docker-style container or full-system container; public cloud, private cloud or on-premise; and LTS or interim version- and systems management through Landscape.”

Ubuntu is a leading scale-out cloud operating system due to its remarkable performance, stability, and policy of regular free updates. Ubuntu is more than twice as popular on leading clouds as all other operating systems.

“This relationship signifies our strategy to broaden the range of options for enterprise customers, giving them more choice and flexibility when choosing cloud technologies,”said Sanjay Sinha, vice president, Platform Products at Oracle. “We recognise there is a growing demand for innovative new cloud solutions and we are excited to have Canonical offer certified Ubuntu images in the Oracle Cloud Marketplace.”

The Oracle Cloud Marketplace is a one-stop shop for Oracle customers seeking trusted business applications and service providers offering unique business solutions, including ones that extend Oracle Cloud Applications. Oracle Cloud is the industry’s broadest and most complete public cloud, delivering enterprise-grade services at every level of the cloud technology stack including software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), infrastructure as a service (IaaS), and data as a service (DaaS).

Ubuntu is fully secure and certified for upgrades and support services direct from Canonical. With a rock-solid support framework and powerful cloud deployment, customers can move mission-critical workloads and applications to their cloud with ease and confidence.

The Value of Ubuntu Certified Images in Enterprise Cloud Development

  • Ubuntu cloud guest image updates: with enablement, publication, development, and maintenance across all cloud availability zones. Customers will have the latest Ubuntu features, compliance accreditations and security updates;
  • Quality assurance: Making sure customers enjoy one of the highest-quality Ubuntu experiences, including some of the fastest security patching of any Linux provider;
  • Archive mirrors for faster updates retrieval;
  • The opportunity to engage with Canonical for enterprise-grade support on Ubuntu cloud guest images.
